Electrifying Motorcycles
February 4, 2009, Forbes GreenTech – A Tesla refugee is building an all-electric superbike. Can it be a business, too?
Hogs roar. Ninjas scream. The Mission One just flies.
A fledgling San Francisco company called Mission Motors unveiled an all-electric motorcycle Wednesday at the TED conference in Long Beach, Calif. Called Mission One and designed by hotshot Yves Behar and his firm, fuseproject, the bike is both beautiful and fast. At a top speed of 150 miles per hour, it would be the fastest production electric vehicle of any type.
If, that is, it gets to production.
Mission Motors was founded in 2007 by a bunch of smart Silicon Valley types with the hope that they can take on heavy industry and change it. If this sounds familiar, it’s because this has been the mission of Tesla Motors, the electric car maker founded by PayPal founder Elon Musk.
